Various; some USB and some Firewire; some both. I've had good results with all of them and tend now to select the ones with the prettiest LEDs. Back in the day, external HDD enclosures were a power supply, a cabinet, and perhaps a fan (this was before USB came along). The one I saw (and only one!) was designed to hold a quite large (thick) Micropolis drive. At the time (1989) it was a 100 meg drive. It was fed over (I think) an IDE bus ribbon cable, or perhaps a pair of MFM cables, out the back, direct to the controller board inside the CPU cabinet. I'm looking for recommedations for external hdd enclosures. They are kind of like kits that are applied to regular internal hdd's and convert them to external hdd's. The type of enclosure I'm looking for is preferably USB compatible, though a USB/Firewire combo would be ideal.
